Offer description

Choices College (formerly Project Choice) is a supported internship programme that aims to support young adults with learning difficulties, disabilities or autism to become employment ready.

You will work closely with the Area Manager in delivering the College's outcomes and maintaining an employment transition rate for students at above 75%. You will play a key role in ensuring the programme meets the needs of the students, employers and regulatory bodies.

Please note: Willingness to travel in the Manchester area is essential.


Main duties of the job

A passion for supporting students with SEN to meet their full potential is essential for this role. The post holder will hold a teaching qualification or have recent experience in supporting the education of students with SEN in the classroom and work placement. They will have the skills and experience to adapt working practices to suit the learning needs of individual students using Training in Systematic Instruction methodologies.

The post holder will be a confident communicator with excellent motivating skills, and highly organized with proficiency in MS Office packages.

The main duties include supporting, monitoring, and recording individual students' progress, reinforcing employability skills through classroom sessions, delivering bespoke training to mentors, and sourcing new employers for placements and employment transitions.

Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend at least 40% of their time working in person.

Staff recruited from outside the NHS will usually be appointed at the bottom of the pay band.

Secondments

Applicants from within the NHS will be offered on a secondment basis only, with prior approval from their employer required before applying.


Person Specification

* Degree-level education or equivalent experience in a relevant field.
* Training in Systematic Instruction (TSI) with evidence of outcomes or similar experience; PGCE or equivalent qualification is desirable.
* Teaching qualification or relevant experience supporting young people with learning disabilities or autism.


Experience

* Experience working with young people with SEN.
* Knowledge of administrative procedures, project management, and data analysis.
* Experience engaging with diverse stakeholders and providing advice.
* Experience in post-16 education and classroom settings.


Skills and Abilities

* Ability to teach/support interns with learning disabilities or autism in work-based learning environments.
* Ability to train mentors in supported internship methodologies.
* Strong communication skills for complex information and placement discussions.
* Ability to prepare comprehensive reports, data, and correspondence.
