Position Overview
Provide technical assistance for the Division of Marine Operations. Responsibilities include inspecting, maintaining, repairing, and modifying equipment such as floats, piers, gangways, moorings, boats, and the Fox Point Pavilion. Candidates should have knowledge of hand and power tools, welding, fabricating metals, and interpreting technical drawings and manuals. Ability to work in various weather conditions and be available for off-hour work is essential.
Key Duties
* Enforce the Marine Safety Plan, report deficiencies.
* Train and supervise student workers and assist with scheduling.
* Pilot university vessels for marine-related and passenger services.
* Ensure marina and equipment are operational.
* Use maintenance software and stay updated on new technologies.
* Assemble, disassemble, and test equipment using various tools and testing devices.
* Perform repairs and preventive maintenance on mechanical, electrical, electronic, and electromechanical equipment.
Minimum Qualifications
* U.S. Coast Guard 50 Ton Masters License or ability to obtain.
* Preferred: U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Sail endorsement.
* 10 years of related experience.
* CPR/First Aid certification.
* Preferred: Class 2A/1C Lifting and Hoisting Engineer License.
* Driver's License Class D.
* Knowledge of marina operations, safety practices, electrical and mechanical testing methods.
* Skills in using measuring instruments, small tools, and operating small boats safely.
* Ability to read technical documents and work odd hours or on call.
* Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook.
* Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and pass a drug test.
Supervision
Reports to the Director of Marine Operations. Supervises student staff and contractors.
On-call requirement for this position.
