Senior Electronics Hardware Design Engineer (Power Electronics Focus)

£55,000 – £60,000 + benefits

We’re working with a specialist engineering business developing advanced electronic control systems for high-reliability applications. They are looking for a Senior Electronics Hardware Design Engineer with strong power electronics experience to join their team.
This is a hands-on design role focused on ECU hardware and power systems in demanding environments.
What you’ll do
* Design and develop electronic control unit (ECU) hardware
* Work on AC-DC and DC-DC power electronics circuits
* Translate requirements into detailed circuit designs
* Produce schematics, BOMs, and full design documentation
* Carry out worst-case circuit analysis and support DFMEA
* Work closely with PCB/ECAD teams on layout and implementation
* Support validation, manufacturing test, and production teams
* Ensure designs meet cost, quality, safety, and manufacturability targets
* Support root cause analysis and technical problem solving
* Contribute to design reviews and technical reporting
What we’re looking for
* Strong experience in electronics hardware design
* Proven experience in power electronics (AC-DC / DC-DC design)
* Background in automotive or high-reliability systems preferred
* Experience with DFMEA and structured design processes
* Understanding of functional safety (ISO 26262 exposure desirable)
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
* Experience with schematic capture and simulation tools
* Comfortable working in cross-functional engineering teams
Nice to have
* Automotive ECU development experience
* ECAD tools (e.g. Xpedition)
* Manufacturing and test engineering exposure
