An opportunity has arisen for a Graduate / Assistant Civil Engineer to join a well-established and highly successful Civil & Structural Engineering consultancy based in Cardiff, delivering projects across Wales and England.
Due to a strong and growing order book, the business is seeking a capable and motivated individual to support the delivery of civil engineering and drainage designs across a diverse portfolio of private and public sector projects. This role is well suited to a graduate or early-career engineer looking to develop their technical capability and progress within a supportive consultancy environment.
The Role
You will work closely with senior engineers to assist in the production of technically robust civil engineering solutions, gaining exposure to all stages of project delivery from concept through to construction.
Key responsibilities include:
Assisting with the preparation of calculations, drawings, specifications and technical reports
Design of sustainable drainage solutions, including preparation and management of SAB applications
Supporting the submission of sectional agreements
Coordinating designs with internal colleagues and the wider project team
Attending meetings and undertaking site surveys when required
Liaising with clients, designers and contractors throughout the design and construction process
Supporting a culture of best practice, including technical excellence, health & safety and sustainable design
About You
You will be a motivated and enthusiastic engineer with a strong foundation in civil engineering principles and a willingness to learn and develop.
You should demonstrate:
A Master's or Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
Ideally working towards Chartered Engineer status
A good understanding of below-ground drainage design, including drainage strategies, SuDS, SAB applications and external works
Strong AutoCAD skills (essential)
Experience with Civil 3D, Site 3D, PDS, TEDDS or Causeway Flow / MicroDrainage (desirable)
Ability to prepare clear and concise technical reports
Awareness of relevant technical standards and the designer's role under CDM Regulations 2015
At least 1 year of post-graduate experience
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
A proactive, problem-solving approach
