The Warwick Mathematics Institute invites applications for the post of Assistant or Associate Professor, to start in September 2026. We are open to applications in all areas of pure and applied mathematics; those working in more applied areas with real-world applications are particularly encouraged to apply.

Associate Professorships are permanent appointments and usually for those who already have a well-established track record in research and significant lecturing experience. Those appointed at the Assistant level are supported through a five-year probationary period to enable them to fulfil the criteria for promotion to Associate Professor.

About You

All applicants should hold a PhD and have already demonstrated excellence and independence in research along with an ability to teach effectively.

We aim to appoint somebody who can make a strong contribution to both our research and our teaching, and who will make the most of the opportunities provided by our lively and vibrant departmental culture.

For further information regarding the skills required for this role please see the personal specification section of the attached job description.

About The Department

The Warwick Mathematics Institute is internationally recognised for its research and our best undergraduates are a match for those at any other UK university. We run a wide range of weekly seminar series, and many workshops and conferences, for which our Mathematics Research Centre provides organisational support.

A list of our staff and their research interests can be found at https://warwick.ac.uk/fac/sci/maths/research/researchers

and you can see our undergraduate module pages at

https://warwick.ac.uk/fac/sci/maths/currentstudents/ughandbook

The department encourages the career advancement and promotion of all its staff, supporting promotion from Associate Professor to Reader and subsequently Full Professor in the same way that Assistant Professors are guided through the probationary process on their way to becoming Associate Professors.

We are committed to fostering an inclusive environment, and we would particularly welcome applications from groups that are under-represented in UK mathematics. We are working hard towards improving our gender balance: we currently hold a Bronze Athena Swan award and our energetic Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion committee plays a significant role in shaping departmental policy.

We are an internationally diverse department. For those eligible, the University offers relocation and Immigration Support Scheme packages to assist with costs of relocating and any associated visa applications and HIS (health) surcharge fees.

About The University

The University of Warwick celebrates its 60th anniversary this year. Since our founding in 1965, we have become a world-leading university with the highest academic standards. We are part of the UK's Russell Group of research-intensive universities, and attract excellent students from both home and overseas.

You'll be joining a diverse and globally connected community committed to excellence in both research and teaching. We have a robust and transparent promotions system, and will offer you support in following your ambitions as long as you bring the energy and determination to succeed.

How to Apply

CLOSING DATE: Sunday 19th October 2025 at 23:55 (BST)

To apply, please click ‘Apply’ below and submit an application form by the closing date.

Please plan for any potential delays as you will not be able to submit an application form past this deadline (even if you opened the form at, say, 23:30).

Applications should include a covering letter and a full CV, which should contain a summary of your teaching experience and a full list of your publications. You can also include here any career breaks you may have taken or any periods during which you were restricted in your ability to work due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Your covering letter (no longer than two pages) should start with a brief indication of your research field in order to assist the shortlisting process (e.g. “Algebra - Algebraic groups, Lie algebras, groups of Lie type”; “Fluid Dynamics - computational modelling; free surface flows“). This is also the place to give a brief summary of your area of research, your research achievements to date, and how you plan to develop your research in the future. We value and respect diverse gender identities and expressions, and encourage you to share your preferred personal pronouns (e.g. he/him, she/her, they/them) with us in this letter too.

If you would only consider an Associate Professorship, please make this clear in your covering letter.

You should arrange for your three referees to send their letters of recommendation directly to mathematicsPA@warwick.ac.uk (quoting the post reference number in the subject line of their email) before the closing date. These letters form an important part of our shortlisting process; please note that it is your responsibility to ensure that these referees have provided their letters to us by the deadline.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to the department to give a talk on their research on Monday 19th January 2026, followed by a formal interview on Tuesday 20th January 2026. These dates have already been fixed to ensure the availability of the Chair of Faculty and cannot be changed.

To streamline our hiring processes, we can only accept applications submitted via our official careers webpage, warwick-careers.tal.net.

* Interview Date: 19th and 20th January 2026
* Desired Start Date: September 2026
