Howdens Joinery is looking for a talented Controls Technician to join our Engineering team at our fast-growing manufacturing site in Runcorn, Cheshire. With investment driving the expansion of the site, including a state-of-the-art, high-volume panel machining line, this is a pivotal moment to join our growth journey.
This is a key cross-functional role within Howdens where you will work with the Controls and Automation team, and collaborate with maintenance teams across the business.
Responsibilities
* Develop and troubleshoot controls and automation systems across manufacturing lines.
* Lead high-level fault-finding and diagnostics on a range of control equipment; develop permanent countermeasures and deliver improvement projects focused on safety, quality, productivity, and efficiency.
* Organise automation, electrical, and PLC design projects by identifying issues, preparing timetables, cost estimates, and detailed documentation on project completion.
* Develop projects to improve manufacturing availability, product quality, employee safety and process efficiency.
* Develop knowledge of manufacturing processes and operating sequences and cascade knowledge with maintenance teams.
* Apply automation skills to drive improvement and cascade with maintenance teams.
* Implement plant/process development opportunities that improve Safety, Quality, Cost and Delivery.
* Coach and develop maintenance engineering team members’ knowledge of machine control and automation systems.
What we are looking for / Qualifications
* Time-served Electrical Engineer, Automation/Controls apprentice with a minimum of 3 years post-qualification work experience within an FMCG environment.
* Minimum of HNC in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
* Ability to fault find and modify programs on PLCs, HMIs and Robotics.
* Knowledge of parameterisation and commissioning of servo drives and inverters.
* Experience fault-finding on industrial communication networks.
* Experience designing and modifying control circuits and program logic.
* Experience delivering change management activities.
