Under the supervision of the Director and the Branch Manager, the position works at the public service desk assisting users with basic library functions.
Responsibilities
* Assists customers by issuing library cards, checking materials in and out, placing holds, and locating materials using an automated library system.
* Assists patrons on site or by telephone with basic informational and directional requests.
* Assists customers in the use of library catalogs, computers, copiers, printers, and other equipment throughout the library.
* Handles fines, fees, and payments.
* Interprets and communicates general library policies and procedures to patrons.
* Operates equipment such as telephones, computers, copiers, faxes, etc.
* Searches for needed materials and shelves accurately according to prescribed location; performs opening and closing procedures.
* Performs other associated duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications
* High School graduate plus two years of relevant work experience.
* Bachelor’s degree preferred.
* Ability to perform duties of job.
* Familiarity with general PC operations in Windows environment.
* Excellent reading and verbal ability.
* Knowledge of library collections and services or willingness to learn.
* Aptitude for detailed work.
* Excellent customer service skills.
* Good communication skills with both children and adults.
This position requires night and weekend work on a rotating basis.
