This role provides technical leadership within the Data Engineering team, driving the development of high‑impact data products and platforms. The Principal Engineer works closely with Solution Architects and cross‑functional teams to ensure alignment, consistency and innovative delivery at scale.
What you’ll do
* Provide technical mentorship and act as a coding and architectural expert for cross‑functional agile teams.
* Define and guide the technical architecture for complex, high‑impact data products and platforms.
* Establish engineering and architectural patterns, coding standards and best practices adopted across multiple squads.
* Translate business and technical requirements into scalable, cloud‑native data solutions and drive adoption of new tools and technologies.
* Embed rigorous validation, profiling, automated testing, monitoring and observability into all engineering work.
* Partner with architects, product leaders and senior stakeholders to shape roadmaps and platform direction, communicating technical concepts in plain terms.
What you’ll bring
* Deep expertise in cloud data engineering, distributed processing and enterprise‑scale data architecture (GCP, Python, Node.js).
* Master‑level proficiency in SQL (e.g., BigQuery) with strong optimisation and performance‑tuning skills.
* Advanced data modelling, profiling, anomaly detection and statistical reasoning abilities.
* Experience leading and influencing senior stakeholders and building strong cross‑functional relationships.
* Expertise in data quality frameworks, governance standards and secure handling of sensitive data.
* Strong communication skills with the ability to simplify complex concepts for non‑technical audiences.
