We are relaunching our Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) at Watford Hospital in close partnership with our Emergency Department, creating a more integrated and responsive model of urgent and emergency care for our community. As part of this work, we are expanding our Children's Emergency Department team and are looking for motivated, compassionate Band 5 staff nurses to join us.

Main duties of the job
As a Band 5 Staff Nurse in the Children's Emergency Department, you will:
* Provide safe, timely, family‑centred nursing care
* Assess, plan, implement and evaluate care for children with a wide range of acute presentations
* Support improvements that enhance patient flow and experience across CED and the UTC
* Work closely with the multidisciplinary team to ensure effective clinical decision making
* Contribute to innovative practice and new ways of working within paediatric urgent and emergency care
* Help maintain a positive, calm and supportive environment for children, young people, families and colleagues

Person specification
Education
* RSCN/RN CHILD or equivalent
* Good command of written and spoken English
* Evidence of professional development
* Knowledge of handling complaints and clinical incidents
* Have undertaken PILS/APLs
* Knowledge of leadership
Knowledge
* Child protection issues
* Understanding of the philosophy of paediatric care & Paediatric A&E
* Awareness of current research and developments within paediatric nursing
* Awareness of equality and diversity
* Knowledge of handling complaints and clinical incidents
* Have undertaken PILS/APLs
* Knowledge of leadership
Experience
* Experience working in an acute paediatric setting (including placements)
Skills
* Excellent paediatric clinical skills
* Relevant specialist skills and abilities for department
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
* Able to problem‑solve and initiate change
* Able to work across professional team and organisational boundaries
* Ability to prioritise administration of IV drugs
* Administration of medication under patient group directives
