About the Academy
We’re working with an SEMH school in Chesterfield, an Ofsted-rated Good alternative provision in Derbyshire. The academy supports pupils aged 11–16 who have SEMH needs or have experienced barriers to mainstream education.
The site provides a structured, nurturing, and supportive environment where small class sizes (typically 8–12 pupils) and high staff-to-pupil ratios enable every learner to feel valued and supported. The academy places a strong emphasis on inclusion, positive relationships, and personal growth—helping pupils re-engage with education and prepare for future success.
The Role
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you’ll play a vital part in the Hasland team by:
* Supporting students both 1:1 and in small groups, helping them with learning, behaviour regulation, and social-emotional development.
* Using strategies such as de-escalation techniques and restorative approaches to help pupils build resilience, confidence, and self-regulation.
* Working alongside teachers, pastoral staff, and wider support services to create a consistent, safe, and engaging learning environment.
* Contributing to a culture of high expectations, respect, and mutual trust across the academy community.
What You’ll Need
* At least 3 months’ experience working with young people.
