The vacancy
Our Linburn Centre is looking for a Relief Kitchen Assistant to support our Chef and team in preparing and serving meals for veterans with sight loss. This role plays an important part in the work we do at Sight Scotland and Sight Scotland Veterans - helping people living with visual impairment stay connected, supported, and able to enjoy daily life with confidence.
At Linburn, we provide a friendly, welcoming environment where veterans come to take part in activities, build community, receive practical support and good food is a key part of that experience.
As a Relief Kitchen Assistant, you’ll help with food preparation, meal service, and general kitchen cleaning, following all Food Hygiene, Health & Safety, and PPE guidelines. You’ll provide holiday cover for our permanent kitchen staff and work regular Friday shifts, with extra shifts available when needed. This is a hands‑on role where your work supports veterans directly and contributes to the smooth running of the centre.
We’re looking for someone who is friendly, reliable, and able to work well both independently and as part of a supportive team. PVG membership and participation in required training are essential. This is a great opportunity to be part of a team that makes a meaningful difference every day.
You don’t need to meet every single requirement to be a great candidate. Most people learn parts of the job once they’re in post, so if a role interests you and you believe you could grow into it, we’d love to hear from you.
We’re committed to fair, accessible recruitment. If you need any adjustments, like extra time, a different format, or other support, at any stage of the process, just let us know. Please contact People and Culture on or via who can arrange for any support you need.
