Description SOC Surveillance Motorcyclist Applications are welcome from both Detective Constables and Police Constables who are already trained as a Surveillance Motorcyclist and are looking to bring those skills to South Yorkshire Police. This is an exciting opportunity for anyone thinking about a career in covert policing and the career pathways this provides. South Yorkshire Police is looking to invest in the right individuals to secure the future of covert policing in the years to come, providing a comprehensive package of training, development and mentoring. We require self-motivated individuals who work well as part of small teams with a common goal. Enthusiasm and a willingness to learn and develop is essential. This area of policing is hugely rewarding as we strive to protect our local communities from serious and organised criminals. Full support will be given from a highly experienced team. Due to the nature of the role and investment you will receive in specialist training and a minimum tenure of 4 years is expected, in which time you may not be supported if applying for promotion or other roles. A decision by senior leadership will be made on a case-by-case basis. Serious and Organised Crime Unit (SOCU) The SOCU team is responsible for investigating serious and organised crime at a force/regional level utilising both overt and covert policing methods, conducting lawful surveillance activities in line with the Police and Crime Plan. They are also responsible for intelligence development using both overt and covert policing methods, conducting lawful surveillance activities to support other departments/districts within the Force. To apply for this role, no previous experience of covert methods of policing or of managing investigations is required. A comprehensive package of training, development and investment in individuals would be provided. Successful applicants will have the opportunity to perform a range of challenging and rewarding roles including OIC, Exhibits Officer, Disclosure Officer and other investigative roles on various investigations. Experience of this type of role would be an advantage but not essential as development opportunities would be identified within the workplace. To be eligible to transfer you must: Be a current serving police officer in a Home Office force. Have no outstanding misconduct or integrity issues. Have resided in the UK for three years immediately prior to submitting your application. Must have successfully completed your probationary period with your Force prior and be substantive in post.
