Overview
There is a vacancy for a Principal Clinical Scientist based in the Radiotherapy Physics Department at the Royal Preston Hospital. You will join an enthusiastic and friendly team of 17 clinical scientists, 12 dosimetrists, 8 engineers and a quality manager, with 3 STP trainees and active recruitment of apprentice engineers in the team. Applicants should be HCPC registered as a clinical scientist and have, or be close to gaining, Medical Physics Expert certification by RPA2000. This role is in the Imaging and Clinical Computing section and acts as a Medical Physics Expert within the wider radiotherapy department. The position emphasizes a strong background in clinical computing to support management of a wide range of radiotherapy systems, collaboration with the Trust IT department on system and data governance, and safe delivery of state-of-the-art radiotherapy. You will provide MPE level support and participate in clinical duties from treatment planning and quality control to research and innovation. Rosemere Cancer Centre is on the Lancashire Teaching Hospitals Royal Preston Hospital site and provides an external beam radiotherapy service for the adult population of Lancashire and South Cumbria (1.6 million).
Site equipment and systems
* Eight clinical Elekta linear accelerators (including two Harmony Pro linacs), all with Vision RT surface guided technology, CBCT, flattening filter free treatment capability and equipped with Response ABC system.
* Two dedicated Philips Big Bore CT scanners with Vision RT surface guided technology.
* MOSAIQ and SYNERGISTIQ.
Responsibilities and activities
* Treatment planning is conducted on Pinnacle throughout the department, with some planning carried out on Raystation.
* Independent VMAT plan verification is carried out using Sun Nuclear DoseCHECK.
* Rosemere is commissioned to provide SABR for primary lung tumours and oligometastases (non-spine and spine, lung, liver and adrenal) in addition to intracranial SRS.
* Exciting developments include:
* Commissioning and implementation of Monaco treatment planning system to replace Pinnacle.
* Commissioning of the first Elekta EVO linac currently being installed.
* Evaluation of Sun Nuclear PerFRACTION for pre-treatment and in vivo QA.
* Roll out of Vision RT surface guided technology for all sites; tattoo-free radiotherapy is available for some sites.
* Implementation of Elekta ONE Smart View.
