Job overview

-To provide fundamental nursing care, e.g., assistance with personal hygiene, eating and drinking, mobility needs, washing under direct or indirect supervision.

- To carry out limited clinical observations and undertake a range of activities under direct or indirect supervision by a registered nurse, having been assessed as deemed competent in the activities required.

-To maintain high clinical standards

- To help maintain a clean and safe unit environment.

- To contribute to the department and organization in the provision of a safe and caring environment.

-The postholder may be required to work anywhere within the Trust. Key working relationships include all members of the multi-professional team, including nursing and medical staff, allied health professionals and relevant support workers.

1. To provide personal and social care for patient.

2. To provide psychological support for patients and their families/carers.

3. To work as an effective team member collaborating with the other health and social care teams.

4. To assist in the timely discharge of patients from the hospital.

Main duties of the job

You’ll work under the guidance of a healthcare professional such as a nurse and your job will vary depending on where you’re based. In a hospital, responsibilities include:

5. washing and dressing patients
6. serving meals and helping to feed patients
7. helping people to move around
8. making beds
9. making patients feel comfortable
10. monitoring patients’ conditions by taking temperatures, pulse, respirations and weight

Band 3s usually work standard hours of around 37.5 hours per week. However, part time options are also available. Band 3s are paid on the Agenda for Change pay system, starting at band 3.

Person specification

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING

Desirable criteria

20. Level 2 or Level 3 (NVQ) in health and Social Care or equivalent relevant experience
21. Willing to work towards Level 2 functional skills (Math & English)
22. Care Certificate/working towards

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & COMPETENCE

Essential criteria

23. An understanding of the importance of patient confidentially and privacy
24. Demonstrates a caring, compassionate and empathetic approach to patient’s and colleagues, whilst having a professional approach.
25. Recognises how patients and colleagues need to be treated with dignity and respect and can demonstrate these behaviours in their daily work
26. Good verbal and written English communication skills
27. The ability to respond with kindness and humanity to patients
28. A flexible and adaptable approach with the aptitude to work in a busy hospital healthcare setting
29. Willingness to undertake the mentorship of new Nursing Assistants after 12 months in post
30. Basic knowledge of health and safety with an awareness of the importance of following Trust policies and procedures
31. An appreciation of equality, diversity and inclusion and how this influences how care is provided to patients
32. A willingness to provide the highest standards of patient care including personal care
33. Ability to work as part of a team
34. Good understanding of care needs relevant to patient’s in a hospital setting to include:  Eating and drinking  Dignity and respect  Communication/conflict resolution  Handwashing and infection control  Hygiene needs  Safeguarding  Understands the limit and scope of their job role and the need to only do tasks they are trained to do.  Knows when to escalate to a registered nurse when the situation is beyond their scope of practice
