The Learning Disability Service provided by Dumfries and Galloway's Health & Social Care Partnership supports young people and adults who have a range of needs including learning/ physical disabilities and autism spectrum conditions.

Dunmuir Park provides long-term care and support to adults living in their own homes in a modern, purpose-built development in Castle Douglas. As a Support Co-Ordinator, you will be part of a team committed to delivering high quality person-centered services putting Health & Social Care Standards at the heart of all we do. You will be a Key Worker, coordinating care and support to people within their homes and ensuring access to community-based opportunities to develop skills, promote independence, improve health and wellbeing and participate in adult learning/work-related activities. Reporting to a Senior Support Co-Ordinator, you will provide direct care and support and contribute towards personal planning and reviews, team meetings and recording of electronic information. You will provide support and supervision to Link Workers.

In this post you will be required to work 24 hours per week 52.14 weeks per year. Some evening, weekend and sleep-in work may be required: however, we are keen to promote staff wellbeing and can offer a pattern of weekend on/off working or other flexible working patterns to support our employees to achieve a good work/life balance.

You must hold a qualification at SVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care or equivalent (Band 7). If you do not hold a qualification at SVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care or equivalent but meet the other essential criteria on the Person Specification, you may still be eligible for interview for a Support Coordinator position at Entry Level Band 6 (£15.52 per hour) whilst you undertake and/or complete the necessary qualification. You will receive regular supervision and support for your professional development in this role with opportunities for learning and training.

You must have some experience of paid or unpaid work with people with additional support needs, for example learning/physical disability, older adults or mental health conditions. Experience of assessment and recording is desirable. You must be a team player, committed to supporting and enabling people to live fulfilled lives. You must be able to use basic computer applications, have good organisational skills and demonstrate a flexible approach, committed to supporting service improvement targets and remain objective whilst showing sensitivity towards others.

A current driving licence is an essential requirement of this post. However, if you have a disability which precludes you from holding a driving licence consideration will be given if alternative transport can be arranged.


This post is considered as Regulated Work with Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to formal offer of employment being made by Dumfries and Galloway Council.

Applicants who have been resident outside the UK within the last 5 years, if offered a position, in addition to a Disclosure Scotland Check, will be required to provide a completed police record check from the police authority in the country or countries in which they were resident.
