An excellent opportunity has arisen for an outstanding Teacher of History to join a highly regarded independent school in Peterborough. This is a superb role for a History specialist who enjoys academic rigour and wants to work with motivated pupils in a calm, purposeful environment where high standards, intellectual curiosity and strong progression are central to school life.

The school offers a strong academic culture alongside excellent pastoral care and a rich co-curricular programme. With smaller class sizes, strong resources and a professional, supportive staff culture, teachers are able to deliver ambitious lessons that stretch and support pupils while developing confident historical thinking and scholarly habits.

About the Role

As Teacher of History, you will teach across KS3–KS5, delivering engaging and well-structured lessons that develop strong historical knowledge, analytical thinking and confident written argument.

You will teach a well-sequenced curriculum that develops:

Secure understanding of key historical periods, events and themes
Confident source analysis, interpretation and evaluation
Strong essay writing supported by modelling, structure and precise feedback
Critical thinking through debate, enquiry and well-chosen historical questions
Exam confidence through deliberate practice, purposeful revision and clear guidance

Pupils may study a broad range of topics including British history, European developments, conflict and change, political movements and social transformation. Lessons are designed to encourage intellectual curiosity while ensuring pupils build the disciplinary knowledge and writing skills needed for success at GCSE and A-Level.

There may also be opportunities to contribute to enrichment such as history societies, lecture programmes, essay competitions, trips or wider humanities scholarship.

The Department

History is a valued and popular subject within the school, and the department is collaborative, well organised and academically ambitious. Teachers work closely together to share resources, refine schemes of work and maintain high expectations across all key stages.

The department values:

Knowledge-rich teaching that builds deep understanding over time
Strong disciplinary thinking, including causation, significance, change and continuity
High expectations for analytical writing, evidence and scholarly discussion
Careful questioning and enquiry-led learning
Enrichment that promotes scholarship beyond the classroom

Teachers support pupils to think critically, argue carefully and engage with the past in ways that deepen both academic understanding and wider intellectual confidence.
