Mechanical Engineer - Ardeer We are looking for motivated individuals who are passionate about improvement, proactive problem-solving, and shaping the future of Engineering within our site. You will join our Engineering team and be aligned to one of our production departments, becoming a subject matter expert and taking ownership of the maintenance of the equipment within that department. You will play a key role in maintaining and developing our plant and equipment to the highest standards of accuracy and reliability. You will be supported by the Engineering shift and day teams and will report to the Engineering Manager. This is a Monday to Friday role comprising of 40 hours per week which can be worked either 7am to 3pm or 8am to 4pm. Key Job Accountabilities As part of the Engineering team, youll be responsible for: Ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards. Managing the safety improvements and close out of safety hazards across the department liaising with the operational Department Manager. Increasing the integrity and the reliability of the machines in your assigned department. Be an integral part in driving improvements to machine OEE and associated operational KPIs. Developing PPM documentation for each asset in the department. Performing routine and preventive maintenance on mechanical systems with the assistance of the wider Engineering team, delivering high standards of asset care for machines in your department. Tracking adherence to a set PPM schedule and ensuring that inspections are carried out on time. Managing the close out of all mechanical defects associated with the machines in your department. Maintaining accurate records of maintenance and repairs for the department. Reviewing and helping maintain records of obsolescence of parts within the department so future plans can be formed to prolong the machine life. Identifying and troubleshooting routine modes of failure and implementing corrective solutions. Participating in routine preventative maintenance in other departments as and when required. Supporting capital projects with ideas for future investment and cost saving initiatives. Collaborating with other trades to ensure completion of tasks. Inspecting mechanical systems and components for wear or damage. Ensuring adequate stock of critical spares are held. Working closely with Production Operators and acting on feedback to resolve reoccurring issues. Developing guides and SOPs for specific machine related tasks. Qualifications/Requirements You must have completed an apprenticeship in a mechanical discipline and have an HNC in Mechanical Engineering. A strong background in mechanical engineering in a production maintenance environment is essential for this role. Multi-skilled engineering experience is desirable. Good communication and teamwork skills. Strong leadership and team management abilities. Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills. Ability to self-manage multiple priorities and work under pressure. Strong focus on quality, safety, and continuous improvement. Strong root cause analysis and troubleshooting skills. Data-driven mindset with the ability to use metrics to guide decisions. Ability to analyse system failures and implement long-term corrective actions. Proficient in project scheduling and budgeting. Good IT skills.
