About The Role
We are seeking an organised and proactive Transport Planner to join our team in Winsford. You will be responsible for planning and organising drivers and vehicles to ensure optimal payloads for vehicle collection and delivery. Your role will involve scheduling daily operations to maximise cost efficiency while maintaining strict legal compliance in all aspects of the transport operation.
Transport Planning Operations
1. Plan daily vehicle collections based on insurance company instructions.
2. Route collections for designated areas, incorporating deliveries and returns where possible, using company-owned trucks.
3. Organise driver/vehicle schedules for collection and delivery, ensuring cost-effectiveness, full capacity utilisation, geographic efficiency, balanced workload, and maximised driver hours/routes.
4. Understand and comply with all driver processes, procedures, and legislative requirements, including the working time directive, EU driving regulations, and rest periods.
5. Communicate thoroughly with drivers regarding collections, returns, and deliveries.
6. Ensure collections and deliveries adhere to Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and that collection notifications are received.
7. Understand all aspects of the planning department, including specialist and small lorry collections, to provide cover when needed.
8. Maintain daily records of vehicle collections and instructions, and organise all documentation such as driver check sheets and special instructions.
9. Ensure all required documentation is available for drivers before departure, and communicate throughout the day to coordinate runs, produce maps, and resolve issues.
10. Manage situations where owners or custodians cannot be contacted, following established procedures.
11. Follow all planning policies and report issues to your line manager.
Person Specification
1. IT literate with proficiency in planning software.
2. Minimum 1 year experience in a planning or similar role.
3. Good communication skills.
4. Strong geographical knowledge of UK road networks.
5. Knowledge of transport legislation, including drivers' hours and tachographs.
6. GCSEs in Maths and English, grade C or above.
7. Attention to detail.
8. Ability to use initiative and work collaboratively.
9. Willingness to review and suggest improvements to routing applications.
