Locum Consultant in Anaesthesia with a special interest in Orthopaedic & Trauma

Applications are invited for enthusiastic and highly motivated Locum Consultants in Anaesthesia to join our expanding team at the University Hospitals of Leicester. This is a full‑time post for 12 months; many of our previous post holders have proceeded to a substantive position within the Trust.


Responsibilities

* Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of patients.
* Share responsibility with colleagues for the day‑to‑day management of patients.
* Promote new ways of working and co‑ordinate care for patients in the community, ensuring services are based on effective and integrated partnerships across the health community.
* Take part in multidisciplinary case conferences.
* Supervise and train junior medical staff.
* Be involved in appraising and assessing juniors.
* Teach, research and participate in administration.
* Proactively develop the service.
* Actively participate in departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit.
* Provide safe and efficient care to patients undergoing elective and urgent orthopaedic surgery.
* Provide specialist high‑risk orthopaedic anaesthesia outpatient clinic work.
* Contribute to the delivery of orthopaedic or trauma sessions at weekends.
* Work flexibly to support the workload and cover for colleagues' annual leave and other authorised absences, including during the reconfiguration towards a single‑site UHL maternity service.
* Participate in service development and business planning with other consultants, the CMG, and local GPs and commissioners within the local CCG.
* Provide professional supervision and management of junior medical staff, observing local employment and human resource policies and procedures.
* Participate in medical audit, the Trust’s Clinical Governance processes and CPD – CPD is provided in job plans and attendance at audit and other governance meetings is mandatory.
* Carry out managerial responsibilities, including budgetary oversight where appropriate and compliance with standing orders and financial instructions of the Trust.
* Ensure all duties are carried out to the highest possible standard in line with GMC Good Medical Practice and current quality initiatives within the area of work.
* Participate in professional continuing medical education; study leave is provided for this purpose.
* Undertake the Trust Corporate and Directorate specific induction and competency programmes appropriate to the role.
* Maintain continuing professional development (CPD) to be able to successfully revalidate, with annual appraisal and statutory and mandatory training kept fully up to date.
