As a Senior Sales Assistant, you will collaborate with the Manager and Assistant Manager to maximize the sales potential of the site. Your responsibilities include ensuring the shop's presentation is pristine, tidy, well-organized, well-signposted, and attractive according to the retail season.
Responsibilities
Site Management
* Assume responsibilities for Manager/Assistant duties in their absence, including weekend rota shifts, annual leave, or illness.
* Open the shop daily to prepare for deliveries and staff, ensuring readiness for the first customer at 9 am.
* Close the shop securely at the end of the day.
* Manage site security, including key holding duties and notifying relevant authorities of key holder changes.
* Oversee shop operations, ensuring cleanliness, maintenance, and compliance with Health and Safety regulations.
* Maintain high housekeeping standards and ensure risk assessments are followed.
* Manage waste procedures and ensure proper disposal of recyclable and general waste.
* Handle all Health & Safety and Fire Safety duties as per company policies.
People Management
* Create a welcoming environment for customers and foster a positive team atmosphere.
* Supervise staff duties or perform them during absences.
* Participate in staffing rota to ensure always present staff, including Manager or Assistant Manager, is on-site.
* Serve customers courteously and professionally.
Operational Management
* Ensure shelves are stocked, tidy, and products are properly displayed and priced.
* Handle incoming calls professionally.
* Ensure staff breaks are covered.
* Escalate customer complaints or product issues appropriately.
* Maintain cleanliness and orderliness in the shop, adhering to safety regulations.
* Manage stock levels, conduct regular stock checks, and organize stock storage efficiently.
* Coordinate deliveries and stock arrivals accurately.
* Perform additional duties as assigned by the Shop Manager.
Sales and Cost Management
* Assist customers with product choices and ensure accurate pricing and payment processing.
* Operate the cash register securely, handle cash and card transactions, and manage refunds and exchanges according to policy.
* Promote in-store promotions, window displays, and additional services like delivery and click & collect.
* Train staff to upsell and recommend related products to boost sales.
* Manage shop finances, including cashing up and banking.
