Overview
The Environment Agency works to protect and enhance the environment, with a focus on water quality and Bathing Waters. We seek a candidate to advise water companies on plans to meet bathing water standards and to hold them to account for protecting the water environment. You will join the Operations Catchment Services (OCS) Water Quality team, collaborating with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.
Responsibilities
* Work alongside Water Quality Officers to embed Bathing Waters work within teams and support the Operational Community of Practice.
* Assess Water Company proposals to meet bathing water standards and develop innovative methods to achieve compliance.
* Engage with internal EA teams (e.g., Local Area Integrated Environmental Planning, National Water Quality Guidance) and external stakeholders to achieve bathing water outcomes.
* Respond to incidents as part of an incident role; provide business continuity support during incidents. Training is provided; additional payment may apply.
* Be part of the dispersed team and travel for national meetings as required; flexible location is supported.
Essential qualifications and experience
* Knowledge of water quality planning, bathing water regulations, understanding of the water industry and price review processes.
* Excellent communication and networking skills to work with EA colleagues and external stakeholders.
* Ability to analyse technical information and present it to diverse audiences.
* Strong organisational skills to plan, track, deliver and evaluate work to relevant standards and timescales.
* Experience in an environmental discipline (e.g., water companies, environmental consultancies, regulatory roles, research/education, environmental charities).
Desirable qualifications
* Degree or postgraduate qualification in an environmental discipline (e.g., Chemistry, Biology, Geography, Ecology, Environmental Science, Sustainability, Data science and analytics).
* Experience in water quality modelling.

You will work as part of a dispersed team and may travel for national meetings with occasional overnight stays. We welcome flexible working patterns, including part-time and job share.
