Pay Range: £90,400 - £106,400
About this opportunity
We’re looking for a Back End Engineering Team Manager to join our Segments & Propositions Ecosystems Lab in Leeds. We're developing exciting new ecosystems within our Mobile Banking app to deepen relationships with our retail customers. We're at the heart of our Group wide change. We want to provide a seamless digital experience, with the right products and services at our customers’ fingertips, but our face-to-face, telephone and secure messaging remain a vital part of our service.
As an Engineering Team Manager, you'll be responsible for leading feature teams of engineers developing and supporting digital front-end and back-end applications. You’ll help to develop the technical designs of our customer focussed solutions and the plans to deliver them. You’ll actively promote transformation methodology and set technology and change delivery direction in alignment with the bank’s technology strategy, best practices & principles.
Line management will be a key part of this role, helping the engineers in the teams to grow and develop. You’ll also help push the engineering agenda within the wider Lab environment, looking for opportunities to improve and transform the technology we use to build our applications.
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:
1. Specialising in Back-End Engineering, you will lead a full-stack feature team of back-end engineers and quality engineers with a focus on predictable delivery and engineering excellence.
2. Collaborate with fellow leads, solution architects, UI/UX designers, and product owners to define roadmaps, technical designs and unblock delivery.
3. Lead by example by being a hands-on contributor to the codebase and providing oversight and feedback via pull requests.
4. Demonstrate leadership for mobile architecture and API and micro-service design with deep knowledge in all aspects of Back-End development
5. Provide line-management and personal development support for engineering team members
6. Develops tactical plans for optimisation of resources and assets being managed within a given area or department.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
7. An experienced engineering lead background with a recent focus on developing customer facing solutions on a Public Cloud Platform
8. Technical thought leadership with evidence of pushing the boundaries of how your organisation delivers great applications
9. Experience in end-to-end software delivery using Agile methodologies and DevOps tooling
10. Technical know-how in building Java applications using cloud engineering techniques and container environments in particular Docker, Kubernetes and Helm, ideally on GCP.
11. The ability to build strong relationships and demonstrate a passion for solving real-world problems with data and technology
12. Leadership of mixed technical teams with good mentoring/coaching skills and a real joy for seeing people develop & succeed
And any experience of these would be really useful
13. Mobilising teams to deliver new initiatives and projects, ensuring the right mix of roles and responsibilities are in place.
14. Hands-on experience of continuous delivery across areas such as code reviewing; understanding of basic App architectures and best practices libraries.
