We are seeking a graduate trainee for Housing Needs, focusing on the young peoples pathway team and supporting our wider services across North Yorkshire. With recommissioned supported accommodation for 18-25 year olds launching in February 2026 and the Young Peoples prevention service joining the team in February 2025, now is an opportune time to get involved. The role is based in Malton but also can sometimes use the Scarborough office and requires travel to all localities in North Yorkshire. The Councils Housing Needs responsibilities include the management of the Housing Options and Homelessness Teams across the Localities, overseeing the provision of an efficient and effective housing options service and ensuring the Council meets its statutory obligations under the Housing Act 1996 Part 7, Homelessness Reduction Act 2017 and related legislation. Complying with the prevention, relief and main housing duties under the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017. The provision of an effective Housing Options, Homelessness and Rough Sleeping service and the operational management of temporary accommodation and supported accommodation used for homeless prevention initiatives. Contributing to and implementation and delivery of the Councils Housing Strategy Homelessness and Rough Sleeper Strategy. Supporting the wider team, these roles will have specific remits to also support the recently created Rough Sleeping team (West role) and Young Persons Pathway team (East role), that both sit within the wider Housing Needs Service. Both services are developing consistency across county and improvements. This will give the opportunity to work with multiple partners, both internal and external to develop new ways of working and create bespoke services for the customer group.

Responsibilities
* Support the Housing Needs and Housing Options Managers in delivering an efficient and effective housing needs service.
* Specific focus on young peoples services across North Yorkshire.
* Assisting the Housing Needs Service Managers with performance management analysis, benchmarking and collation of best practice for service development.
* Support managers to review and develop risk assessments and policies and procedures for the service.
* Assistance with service improvement task and finish groups.
* Support for data collection, reports for homelessness, rough sleeper work, young persons pathway, support services and service delivery changes.
* Provide low level support with clients on housing applications, assistance with benefits, budgeting to support the team.
* Shadowing front line officers to develop knowledge of Housing Act and Homelessness legislation.
