Your impact
As a Contracts and Procurement Site Supervisor, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring the successful delivery of infrastructure projects for Hertfordshire County Council. You’ll be the eyes and ears on the ground—monitoring contractor performance, inspecting works, and safeguarding quality and safety standards. Your work will directly influence the success of highways and infrastructure services across the county.
As a Site Supervisor you will
* Conduct site inspections and audits, ensuring works meet contractual and technical standards.
* Monitor health and safety compliance and report near misses.
* Review traffic management and ensure safe, signed routes.
* Maintain detailed site diaries and photographic records.
* Measure quantities and verify specifications, materials, and workmanship.
* Liaise with contractors, stakeholders, and the public to resolve issues and maintain collaborative relationships.
* Support contract management processes including Early Warnings, Defect Certificates, and payment reviews.
* Represent the client’s interests with professionalism and integrity.
* Spend most of your time on-site across Hertfordshire, driving safely between locations.
What you’ll need
* Practical experience in Highways and other infrastructure sectors (roads, rail, water, or buildings).
* A full UK Category B/B1 driving licence with a safe driving record.
* Proven track record as an NEC Site Supervisor or equivalent on complex projects.
* Strong understanding of Health and Safety standards.
* Ability to produce high-quality records and reports.
* Independent, able to work with limited supervision and on own initiative
* Clear and confident communicator—both written and verbal.
* Methodical, detail-oriented, and able to work independently.
* Proficient in MS Word, MS Teams, and other digital tools.
