Job Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the RUH Facilities team as an Environment Porter. The role involves managing the removal of all waste streams on site, encouraging waste segregation, repurposing and recycling from users.
Key Responsibilities
* Work as part of a dedicated team collecting Clinical, Non‑clinical, Hazardous and Non‑hazardous waste, furniture and used laundry from wards and departments for collection by contractors.
* Operate a 7.5‑ton vehicle; possession of a C1 driving licence is advantageous.
* Handle and move linen, waste and heavy goods internally through hospital corridors and externally around the grounds. Physical fitness and capability to walk, pull and push trolleys and cages for extended periods is required.
* Ensure safe movement in all areas, adhere to PPE and uniform requirements, and work unsupervised while coordinating with other porters and clinical staff.
* Work flexible hours, including unsocial hours, weekends and bank holidays.
* Act in a courteous manner to all staff, visitors and patients, and work in a team to provide a caring and professional service.

* Work under stressful and busy conditions, requiring patience, tact and continuous re‑evaluation.
* Maintain a courteous and professional attitude at all times.
Qualifications
* Essential: C1 category driving licence; experience working in a busy environment with strict time constraints.
* Desirable: Clean driving licence and willingness to undertake additional training; experience in waste and recycling within the NHS.
