Clinical Lead Gender Services (Midlands)

We are looking for an experienced, skilled and compassionate individual for the role of Clinical Lead for the NHS Children and Young People's Gender Service (Midlands). The NHS Children and Young People's Gender Service (Midlands) is part of a network of CYP Gender service providers across England.
The lead will ensure that the service is set up to be delivered by a wide multidisciplinary team including paediatricians, psychiatrists, mental health practitioners, youth workers, nurses, speech and language therapists and occupational therapists. Who patients see will be dependent on the support and care they need.
Children and young people will receive an in‑depth assessment of their needs, and a care plan will be developed with them and, if needed, those supporting them. CYP may be offered a range of care interventions such as therapy, family therapy, physical health support or mental health support for any identified difficulties they may want help with. The team will also liaise with health care professionals in local services nearer to the child or young person.
It is expected that the NHS CYP Gender Service will continue to change and evolve as more learning, research and evidence is developed in this area, and therefore we would encourage applications from individuals with a passion for service improvement, audit and research.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide strong clinical leadership and expertise to this important, high‑profile, and complex service development, working closely with the Trust and the team they recruit. The post holder will lead the team they recruit to deliver this service and will work with the wider collaborative network with partner Trusts, other regional centres and NHS England at a national level. This will include providing strategic and operational support to the ongoing development of the new service, ensuring delivery is consistent with the Cass review Final Report and NHS England Implementation Plan and other regional centres. The role will be required to provide assurance internally and externally on the ongoing development of the new service, via regional and national governance forum.
We are looking for an individual with significant senior experience in establishing and/or running new services, supporting services to develop and continually improve their performance. The post holder will have experience in managing complex, multidisciplinary, and ideally politically contentions programmes. The successful individual will be proactive, and solution orientate, with the ability to influence and collaborate with a wide range of people. We encourage applicants who are currently Consultants in their specialist area from a Paediatrician or Consultant Psychiatry post.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
* CCT holder in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry or equivalent (or within 6 months of becoming eligible for CCT).
* Current full registration with the GMC (or eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment).
* Wide range of experience in child and adolescent psychiatry including tier 4 experience.
* GMC Licence to practise.
* Approval (or eligible for approval) under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act.
* Eligible to work in the UK.
* Higher degree or other qualification in research methodology.
* Qualification or previous training in leadership.
* Qualification and/or experience in providing training for doctors.
Knowledge/Experience
* Provision of high‑quality mental services, as trainee or consultant.
* A broad range of experience in Child & Adolescent psychiatry and working with multi‑disciplinary teams. To include the setting up and development of clinical services.
* Experience of assessment, treatment and medical monitoring of patients and their families.

* Previous experience of leading substantial change in a clinical environment.
* Knowledge/experience of clinical governance i.e. conducting investigations into incidents, complaints etc.
* Ability to supervise and train trainee medical staff.
