Finance OfficerLocation: LondonContract: ContractRate: £28 - £33 Per Hour UmbrellaStart date: ASAP*Hybrid*Contact: .ukJob DescriptionService Care Solutions are currently recruiting on behalf of a local authority in London for a Finance Officer to support the Children’s Services department. This is a fantastic opportunity for a motivated and detail-oriented individual with experience in local authority finance to play a key role in managing placement-related financial processes. The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring placement data, ensuring accurate and timely supplier payments, and providing essential financial insight to support decision-making within the service. If you have strong financial acumen, excellent Excel skills, and a keen interest in contributing to meaningful service improvement, we’d like to hear from you.Main responsibilities
* Maintain oversight of children’s placements, identifying trends and implications, especially around placement stability and the use of high-cost, long-term external placements.
* Ensure timely and accurate processing of supplier payments, resolve invoice queries, reconcile supplier accounts, and correct errors or miscodings.
* Supply financial data, including placement costs, activity data, and unit cost information, to finance and social work teams to support decision-making.
* Use various financial and placement systems to download transactions, run reports, load commitments, and ensure appropriate invoice storage and data accuracy.
* Play an active role in transformation projects by providing financial expertise, engaging stakeholders, and supporting continuous improvement across children’s services.
Candidate Requirements
* Educated to degree level (or equivalent) with relevant finance experience and knowledge of Local Authority finance processes.
* Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Outlook; familiarity with systems such as Mosaic, Oracle, and IBC/SAP is desirable.
* Able to work accurately under pressure with strong attention to detail, particularly in financial tasks.
* Self-motivated, enthusiastic, proactive, and able to take ownership of their development and responsibilities.
* Strong interpersonal and written communication skills, with the ability to manage time effectively, prioritise workload, and handle sensitive information with discretion.
