Job overview
Applications are invited for the post of Consultant Uro-Medical Oncologist with an interest in Germ cell, Prostate & Bladder cancers. Based in Brighton but with cross-site working in Haywards Heath (PRH hospital) as part of UHSussex Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
The “Sussex Cancer Centre Oncology Service” is a team of oncologists employed through University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust, working across the county to provide clinical and medical oncology care. This includes non-surgical cancer treatments across five hospital locations — Brighton, Haywards Heath, Worthing, Hastings, Eastbourne — with acute service support in Chichester.
The appointee will work alongside colleagues in the GI & CUP sites reference groups, comprising a multiprofessional team including clinical oncologists, medical oncologists, pharmacists, clinical nurse specialists and cancer support workers. An On Call Commitment at Royal Sussex County Hospital is on a >1:9 rota (currently 1 in 20).
Main duties of the job
The appointee will join a team of about 30 Clinical/Medical Consultant Oncologists who work across Sussex (Worthing, Brighton, Haywards Heath, Eastbourne and Hastings) to deliver a comprehensive oncology service for patients. Key duties include regular outpatient clinics, MDM attendance, SACT prescribing and oversight, clinical supervision of non-medical staff, clinical governance, service development, ward reviews and on-call duties. The successful applicant is expected to contribute to education for trainees at all grades and to teaching and supervision of medical students, junior medical staff and AHP/nurses. Applicants are encouraged to take part in research and audit and to support junior team members in their audit projects.

Experience & Qualifications
* Full and specialist registration (with a licence to practise) with the GMC or eligibility for registration within six months of interview.
* If trained in the UK, must have a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Oncology or be within six months of receiving it by the interview date.
* If trained outside the UK, provide evidence that qualifications are equivalent to the UK CCT (equivalence confirmed by GMC by date of AAC).
Clinical Skills & Experience
* Evidence of training in a broad spectrum of clinical oncology tumour sites.
* Interest and training suitable for a CNS cancer clinical oncology post.
Knowledge
* Breadth of experience in and outside specialty.
Organisation & Planning
* Experience and ability to work in multi-professional teams.
* Understanding of NHS, clinical governance and resource constraints.
* Evidence of managerial skills: achievements or courses attended.
Teaching Skills
* Interest and commitment to teaching; recognised teaching qualification.
