Job Summary
The role is to manage a 14‑bedded children's ward with a focus on gastroenterology. The officer will share both clinical and managerial skills to improve care for paediatric patients with inflammatory bowel disease, intestinal failure and related conditions.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide expert clinical leadership at ward level and set high standards of care.
* Hold 24‑hour accountability for overall ward management and delivery of nursing care.
* Plan, deploy and supervise nursing and associated staff, ensuring effective staffing and training.
* Manage the ward budget, including resource allocation and cost control.
* Develop and implement best practice protocols and standards of care.
* Educate patients, families and staff on clinical and management issues.
* Coordinate discharge of complex, long‑term patients and delegate related tasks to appropriate team members.
* Work closely with multidisciplinary clinical teams and senior hospital management to safeguard and improve service provision.
* Lead quality improvement initiatives, including audits and data analysis.
Person Specification
Essential
* Current UK professional registration (ROSCN / RN Child with NMC registration).
* Completed Practice Assessor and Supervisor course.
* Completed P-ILS (Pediatric Intensive Care Level Skill) training.
* Evidence of continued practice development.
* Recent experience working on a gastroenterology ward.
* Experience with central lines, parenteral nutrition, PEGs and feed administration.
* Experience with audits in a clinical area.
* Knowledge of parenteral nutrition management and both intestinal failure and inflammatory bowel disease.
* Ability to implement change to improve patient care.
* Strong clinical leadership, adaptability and ICT skills.
Desirable
* Degree level education.
* Leadership development programme or course.
* Gastroenterology qualification or course.
* EPALS/APLS skills.
* Experience managing staff.
* Ability to analyse data using computerised systems.
* Ability to manage a budget.
* Knowledge of HealthRoster and Millennium CRS.

Contract & Salary
