Key Responsibilities

* Gain a good knowledge of nursery policies and procedures for events such as illness, accidents, safeguarding, and health and safety.
* Work within current guidelines and legislation regarding the care and education of young children.
* Maintain a Level 3 Child Care qualification to the required standard.
* Ensure mandatory paperwork (accidents, incidents, health and safety lists, risk assessments, medicine logs) is completed in line with nursery procedures.
* Practice in consistency with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) standards.
* Collaborate with qualified room staff to create and maintain a stimulating and challenging environment that meets the diverse needs of all children attending.
* Support the development of an outdoor learning area and ensure development reviews are completed in line with statutory requirements, following transition procedures set out by room leaders.
* Liaise and engage with parents, providing advice and support, and answering questions in line with setting policy.
* Develop personal skills and practice within the EYFS framework, undertake professional development during performance monitoring, and act to protect children and colleagues in line with safeguarding policy.
* Apply legislation, policy, and procedure to protect the health, safety and wellbeing of children (e.g., food safety, diets, allergies, COSHH, accidents, emergencies).
* Apply risk assessment and risk management principles within documentation and practice.
* Teach children to manage risk and maintain safety for themselves and others.
* Use a range of communication methods, including technology, to meet individual child needs.
* Develop and maintain effective professional, collaborative relationships with others involved in children’s care.
* Recognise and apply attachment theory to develop effective relationships with children.
* Provide sensitive and respectful personal care for children from birth to 5 years.
* Advocate for all children’s needs, including those requiring SEND or EAL support.
* Promote children’s interpersonal communication and support development of a positive sense of identity and culture.
* Support children in understanding and responding to their emotions and making considered choices about their behaviours.
* Assess the responsiveness of the environment for effective child‑centred experiences.
* Create inclusive, child‑centred, dynamic, innovative, and evolving physical environments both indoors and outdoors.
* Create an inclusive and supportive emotional environment that enables children to feel safe, secure, respected and experience wellbeing.
* Apply strategies that support children’s ability to manage change, transition, and significant events.
* Analyse observation evidence to assess and plan holistic individual learning based on a comprehensive understanding of each child’s needs and interests.
* Facilitate and support child‑centred opportunities and experiences based on the setting’s curriculum and pedagogy.
* Provide adult‑led opportunities and experiences based on the setting’s curriculum and pedagogy.
* Use reflection to develop personally and professionally.


Key Person Role

* Undertake the role and responsibilities of Key Person.
* Recognise when a child or a colleague is in danger or at risk of abuse and act to protect them in line with safeguarding policy.


Qualifications and Training

* NVQ Level 3 Early Years Educator qualification upon completion of the course.
* Level 3 Paediatric First Aid certification.
* Functional skills training if necessary.
* GCSE in English (grade 4) and Maths (grade 4) or equivalent.
* Any other relevant qualifications and industry experience will be considered.

Working Hours and Remuneration

£15,704 for the first year, with potential increase depending on age.


Working Hours and Schedule

* Hours: Monday to Friday between 08:00 am and 06:00 pm (rota to be agreed in advance).
* 40 hours a week.


Location and Duration

Start date: 2 December 2025. Duration: 1 year 6 months. Setting: Wind in the Willows (At Wind in the Willows).
