Position: Mechanical Design Engineer
Join our Engineering department as a Mechanical Design Engineer. You will work as part of a team developing Allied Vehicles’ current range of Minibus, Taxi and Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV) conversions. Your role includes design, R&D, prototyping, Bill of Materials (BoM) creation, project planning and documentation updates.
Working Hours and Salary
Monday to Thursday, flexible start and finish between 7 am and 6 pm, total 37.5 hours per week. Salary up to £45,000 per annum, dependent on experience.
Key Responsibilities
* Assist with research and development of innovative solutions for new products.
* Design accessories and complete new vehicle product design.
* Manage projects to meet specifications, cost and timeline requirements.
* Provide technical support for products and production.
* Design for manufacturing in the UK and internationally.
* Incorporate lean manufacturing techniques into each design.
* Consider warranty implications of new designs.
* Stay informed on future designs proposed by vehicle manufacturers.
* Engage with sales to advise and support engineering‑required multi‑vehicle orders.
* Collaborate with Product Engineering to implement requirements efficiently on the production line.
Qualifications and Experience
* Previous experience in an automotive or manufacturing environment in a similar role.
* Proven track record of taking designs from concept to production‑ready models.
* Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline (e.g., Automotive, Aeronautical, Materials Technology, Product Design).
* Experience with sheet‑metal fabrication.
* Proficiency in 3D CAD packages.
Previous experience in a WAV/Bus/Coachbuilding role is advantageous but not essential.
