Copello are seeking an experienced Senior Buyer to join our procurement team on a 10-month contract. The successful candidate will be responsible for the end-to-end supply chain management of parts across direct spend categories, developing strategic commodity strategies, and ensuring that all sourcing activities deliver measurable cost savings and operational value. This role requires strong supplier management and procurement expertise within the defence or aerospace sector.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage the end-to-end procurement process across direct spend categories (mechanical, electromechanical, and electronics).
* Develop and execute strategic commodity strategies aligned with business and procurement objectives.
* Drive year-on-year cost savings against standard costs through effective sourcing strategies.
* Conduct supplier negotiations, ensuring delivery of best value and long-term commercial benefits.
* Review and interpret MRP requirements to ensure timely availability of components to meet production schedules.
* Continuously monitor the market for new suppliers and vendors to maintain competitiveness and resilience in the supply chain.
* Ensure compliance with internal policies, standards, and customer requirements throughout the procurement process.
* Support continuous improvement initiatives in cost management, process efficiency, and supplier performance.
* Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, engineering, and business systems teams to align procurement with overall business needs.
Experience & Skills Required
* Proven track record in strategic procurement or commodity management within a defence or aerospace organisation.
* Strong experience in supplier relationship management, negotiation, and performance improvement.
* Demonstrated expertise in procuring across direct spend categories – particularly mechanical, electromechanical, and electronic components.
* Good appreciation of business operations, systems, and processes.
* Experience in cost management, contract management, and continuous improvement initiatives.
* Ability to work effectively under tight deadlines in a dynamic environment.
* Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and influencing skills.
Role will be working onsite ideally 4 days a week
