PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £27,300 - £35,150 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
We are looking for a production journalist to be a key member of BBC Scotland’s award winning TV news team. At the heart of our content is Reporting Scotland and The News at Seven.
Reporting Scotland’s 18.30 programme usually attracts the largest audience share to BBC One’s schedule. Our presenters Laura Miller and Laura Goodwin lead viewers through the day’s top stories from across the whole of the country.
The News at Seven launched on the BBC Scotland Channel in January this year. We provide news in a more conversational style. We bring more content to the day’s top stories and also report on the issues affecting communities. We’re not afraid to champion Scottish culture and people’s achievements.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:
* As a production journalist, you will be a valuable member of the team.
* You will work with senior journalists, presenters and programme editors to shape the programmes we make.
* You will be required to take on a variety of shifts and roles. They include working closely with the presenter to put together breakfast and late bulletins for Reporting Scotland.
* You will also help the News at seven create a compelling programmes by booking guests and working with reporters. Some weekend working will be required.
* Your skills and experience will mean you have a good understanding of the news agenda and how to make it into compelling television.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
* Strong editorial background. As an experienced journalist you will have an understanding of how Reporting Scotland and the News at Seven presents stories in an impartial and accurate way, especially when reporting on controversial issues.
* An extensive understanding of the news agenda. Good knowledge of the stories which affect a Scottish audience.
* A good knowledge of Scotland’s political, cultural and social make-up.
* Good production skills. From editing material, booking guests and writing sharp copy, you will have previous experience of working in a newsroom environment and have the ability to adapt to new systems.
* Creative thinking. Coming up with ideas and thinking of ways to make them into exciting television.
