Location: Negotiable as visiting sites throughout UK.

The Relief Depot Manager is a critical "plug-and-play" leader responsible for maintaining seamless operations across our network of six depots. You will provide essential management cover during periods of annual leave, sickness, or peak demand. This is a hands-on role requiring a deep understanding of the fencing industry, logistics, and people management. When you step into a depot, the goal isnβt just to "sit in"βitβs to lead, motivate, and ensure our high standards of safety and service never drop.
Key Responbilities
* Direct Supervision: Manage a diverse team including Van Drivers, Yard Operatives, Forklift Drivers, and Admin employees.
* Managing People: Lead, motivate, and inspire the team with a positive, results-driven approach. Conduct all necessary HR management duties, including, performance reviews, disciplinary procedures, and return-to-work interviews.
* Culture Carrier: Maintain morale and productivity, ensuring a "one team" mentality even when the permanent manager is away.
* Workflow Oversight: Ensure the yard is organised, picking lists are accurate, and fencing stock is handled safely. Identify opportunities for improving depot processes and share best practice between sites.
* Transport & Logistics: Oversee driver scheduling and compliance, ensuring deliveries are on time and vehicles are maintained.
* Depot Operations: Oversee all depot operations to ensure maximum efficiency and productivity. Continuously refine Standard Operating Procedures tailored to depot needs, ensuring strict adherence to company policy and KPI targets. When not providing depot cover, the Relief Depot Manager will support operational improvement projects, depot audits, stock take and process implementation across the network.
* Health and Safety: Be the site safety lead, enforcing all regulations and procedures. Conducting regular audits and risk assessments. Investigate all incidents and implement corrective actions to ensure a zero-harm safety culture. Ensure all PPE is worn, forklift operations are safe, and the yard remains a hazard-free environment.
* Systems Management: Use internal software to manage stock levels, process orders, and handle administrative reporting.
* Customer Service: Act as the key operational link with Sales and Customer Service. Resolve complex operational enquiries and fulfilment issues to ensure maximum customer satisfaction and retention
* Employee Relations: Champion a positive and inclusive work environment, be the primary point of contact for employee concerns, proactively resolving workplace issues to maintain high staff morale and engagement.
* Stakeholder Engagement: Provide feedback to the Operations Manager on recurring operational challenges or improvement opportunities.
Requirements
* Experience: Proven experience in a Depot Management or Assistant Manager role, ideally within the construction, fencing, or building materials sectors.
* People Skills: A strong grasp of HR and ER procedures. You should feel comfortable de-escalating conflict and managing performance.
* Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with transport compliance and health and safety regulations (IOSH is a plus).
* Licensing: A valid UK Driving License is essential (as travel between 6 sites is required). A Forklift (FLT) license is highly desirable.
* Adaptability: The ability to learn the specific nuances of six different teams and layouts quickly. You must be comfortable with frequent travel and changing environments.
