Overview

Join to apply for the Mental Health Practitioner role at Cheswold Park Hospital.

We are seeking enthusiastic professionals (including RMN/RN/Social worker/OT) for a Band 6 position within a well-established Crisis Team within Wakefield CAMHS. The team focuses on supporting vulnerable young people in crisis, improving access to services, and responding to those in crisis.

The post will be based in Castleford and may require travel to different areas of the Wakefield district. The team operates 8am–8pm, 7 days a week. All employees are encouraged to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 to protect patients.

Main Duties

* Manage your own caseload, providing high-quality care appropriate to the needs of young people, including risk assessment and management.
* Develop good working relationships with key professionals across the district; excellent communication and engagement skills are essential.
* Contribute to service delivery within the wider CAMHS team and support discharge from inpatient provision.
* Provide clinical supervision to colleagues and offer training/consultation to other service providers, partner agencies, and junior staff as required.
* Be part of the developing ReACH Team and contribute to service development, audit, and improvement.
* Adhere to Trust policies in instances of aggression, distress, and disturbed mental health presentations.
* Use IT systems (including Rio) to ensure high-quality data collection, secure storage, and confidentiality.
* Engage in clinical governance, annual appraisal, and continuous professional development.

The role requires working autonomously and as part of an MDT, with supervision from a senior clinician within professional guidelines.


Responsibilities and Key Requirements

* Provide assessment and treatment to children and young people with mental health needs; promote safeguarding and welfare.
* Deliver routine and urgent assessments and interventions for a wide range of emotional and psychological problems in keeping with evidence-based practice.
* Support the ongoing process of delivering a comprehensive CAMHS system and address complex needs, including those at risk of self-harm or suicide where appropriate.
* Work collaboratively with services to provide coordinated mental health services and ensure timely transition and consultation to universal and targeted services.
* Use information systems (Rio, etc.) for accurate data collection and reporting; participate in clinical audits and quality improvement activities.
* Maintain professional registration and comply with clinical and corporate governance frameworks.


Person Specification

* Experience — Essential: substantial post-qualification experience with children/young people and carers in mental health or other complex care settings; multidisciplinary teamwork; inter-agency liaison; supervision/mentoring; safeguarding; risk assessment; evidence-based practice; ability to work with other agencies.
* Desirable: community experience; work in diverse cultural contexts; knowledge of equality and diversity.
* Physical Attributes — Essential: ability to perform the duties, with satisfactory sickness record as applicable.
* Personal Attributes — Essential: autonomous and collaborative; able to work under pressure; calm, confident, innovative, adaptable; good self-care; driving licence and access to a car (reasonable adjustments considered).
* Qualifications — Essential: relevant professional qualification (nursing or other allied health), Dip SW or relevant mental health profession, professional registration; Desirable: post-registration degree, postgraduate mental health qualification, teaching/assessing qualification.
* Training, Knowledge and Skills — Essential: good verbal and written communication; caseload management; negotiation and problem-solving; IT literacy; effective record keeping and risk assessment; teamwork and cross-disciplinary collaboration.
