A well-established engineering manufacturer supplying critical components to the global energy sector is seeking an experienced Senior Buyer to join its procurement team.
This is a key role responsible for sourcing complex engineered components and specialist materials used in precision manufacturing environments. The position will suit someone with a strong engineering background who understands machining processes and technical specifications, and who has experience managing international supply chains.
Key Responsibilities
1. Manage the procurement of machined components, castings, forgings and specialist metals.
2. Develop and manage suppliers across China and India, ensuring quality, cost, and delivery targets are met.
3. Identify and implement cost reduction initiatives with both new and existing suppliers.
4. Work closely with engineering and production teams to ensure technical requirements are fully understood and achieved.
5. Build long-term supplier partnerships and monitor supplier performance.
6. Support supplier audits and continuous improvement activities.
7. Occasional international travel to China and India to visit suppliers and support sourcing projects.
Candidate Requirements
8. Proven experience in a Senior Buyer or Procurement role within engineering or manufacturing.
9. Engineering background with a solid understanding of technical components.
10. Experience working with or closely alongside machine shops / precision machining environments.
11. Knowledge of specialist materials and metals, including Inconel, is highly desirable.
12. Experience sourcing suppliers across China and India.
13. Strong negotiation skills with a track record of delivering cost savings.
14. Ability to understand technical drawings and specifications.
