Job summary

Would you be interested in joining our Corporate People Team to further develop your HR career? We have a temporary 12-month opportunity, available as either a fixed term contract or secondment and are looking for a proactive and people-focused People Advisor to join our dedicated team. In this pivotal role, you will provide expert advice and guidance to managers and staff across the organisation, ensuring fair, consistent, and effective people management in line with NHS policies and employment law.

You will play a key role in supporting managers and staff through organisational change processes, ensuring that all activity is fair, transparent and in line with NHS policies and employment law.

Key Responsibilities

* Deliver a professional, comprehensive and high-quality people advisory service to managers and staff and support HR Business Partners in their professional and operational responsibilities.
* Embed and role model organisational values through people-focused practice.
* Act as the HR team lead on specific areas of work as directed by HR Business Partners.
* Provide an effective employee relations service, deal with and manage all aspects of complex cases with contested information.
* Represent the HR team at employee relations meetings/hearings (disciplinary, grievance, dignity at work, performance), including investigations, hearings and evidence-giving.
* Provide regular updates on progress of employee relation cases and seek advice as required.
* Provide workforce information to managers (e.g., sickness data) and advise on appropriate strategies.
* Proactively manage sickness absence in line with the Sickness Absence Management Policy.
* Take a lead role on programmes such as workforce reporting, wellbeing, ESR, recruitment, board member appointments, staff survey.
* Interpret, advise and coach employees on application of terms and conditions of employment, ensuring compliance with policies and legislation.
* Support the design and development of employment policy.
* Assist in developing training sessions on people management skills and workforce-related topics.
* Participate in job evaluation processes and comply with national guidance.
* Support managers in developing job descriptions.
* Contribute to design and implementation of policies/procedures and guidelines and propose changes where needed.
* Support change management processes including TUPE, redundancy, redeployment.
* Advise managers on complex recruitment queries, ensuring inclusive practices.
* Produce workforce reports and briefing papers, analysing data and using appropriate software.
* Develop project communication material such as briefings, presentations and progress reports.
* Work with Trade Union representatives on specific issues.
* Undertake workforce audits and respond to FOI and subject access requests.
* Maintain robust and accurate records management processes.
* Support employee engagement activities, such as attending Staff Engagement Group and Staff Networks.
* Develop HR service specifications and associated processes.
* Take formal line management responsibilities of employees, as required.
* Work on own initiative, under pressure, and plan workload to weekly, monthly and annual timescales.
* Ensure compliance with statutory and mandatory training, safeguarding, infection prevention, health and safety, data protection, and professional conduct.
* Participate in organisational appraisal and pursue ongoing professional development.


Person Specification

Essential

* Highly resilient and able to cope under pressure.
* Proactive, responsive and solution-focused.
* Attention to detail, accurate work, error rectification.
* Ability to analyse and interpret complex workforce data.
* Excellent communication skills, verbal and written.
* Planned and organised approach with ability to manage competing priorities.
* IT skills (Microsoft packages).

Desirable

* Training, presentation and facilitation skills.
* Project Management skills.
* Coaching qualification.


Qualifications

Essential

* Degree level in Human Resources Management or equivalent experience.
* Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) Level 5 qualification or equivalent.
* Working towards or willing to work towards Level 7 CIPD qualification.

Desirable

* Coaching qualification.

Essential

* Providing advice to managers on employment policy and legislation.
* Experience of employee relations casework and organisational change.
* Design and development of employment policy.
* Producing and analysing workforce reports.
* Knowledge of employment reward and job evaluation.
* Maintaining effective employment record management systems.
* Working with Trade Unions.
* Knowledge of equality, diversity and inclusion issues.

Desirable

* Working knowledge of Agenda for Change Terms and Conditions.
* Training in NHS Agenda for Change Job Evaluation.
