Overview
Specialist Biomedical Scientist role at NHS Highland. The post is based at Raigmore Hospital, Inverness, within the Scottish Toxoplasma and Lyme Disease and Tick-borne Infections Reference Laboratories (STRL and SLDTRL).
This is an exciting opportunity to join a progressive department delivering two high quality, highly specialised microbiological reference services and providing clinical and technical advice. The laboratories are part of the Microbiology department at Raigmore Hospital, which offers a comprehensive service to clinicians in the NHS Highland area.
Responsibilities
The post requires an HCPC registered Specialist Biomedical Scientist to ensure efficient and high quality delivery of a reference laboratory service in compliance with ISO 15189. The reference laboratories include culture (bacterial culture, antibiotic sensitivity, antigen detection), molecular (bacteria and virus), and serology (bacterial and viral serology and immunology tests). The successful candidate will contribute to testing for patients across Scotland and provide epidemiological information in collaboration with Health Protection Scotland.
Qualifications and requirements
* HCPC registered with no specialist portfolio (or pending) — Band 6 Annex 21 would apply in such circumstances; the successful candidate will be required to complete the relevant Specialist Diploma to transition to Band 6.
* Post with Annex 21 is paid a percentage of the full rate during training: Year 1 60%, Year 2 65%, Year 3 70%, Year 4 75% of the pay band maximum.
* If training requirements are not completed, duties may be reviewed.
* Based at Raigmore Hospital, Inverness; experience in an ISO 15189 accredited laboratory is required.
* Currently there is no requirement to work weekends, evenings, or nights, but service needs may require this going forward.
* Applicants must be HCPC registered / Specialist BMS with relevant experience; there is no current need to relocate.
