About the Role
We have an exciting opportunity for a talented and motivated individual to join the Technical Services Team supporting the Department of Chemistry’s Teaching Laboratories at the University of Warwick. Reporting to the Deputy Technical Services Manager, you will be part of a team of Senior Teaching Lab Technicians and Technical Assistants who deliver high‑quality technical support to staff, students and visitors. You will have experience of the delivery of a technical service in teaching laboratories and will be required to contribute to the smooth running of the Department’s Teaching Laboratories, working flexibly with staff across the department and the wider technical services team to achieve a high standard of support.
Responsibilities
* Handle chemicals across a range of hazards, including toxic chemicals, corrosives and cryogens.
* Operate and maintain compressed gas cylinders and heavy items with proper manual handling.
* Perform set‑up of experiments and laboratory equipment.
* Maintain core infrastructure and facilities.
* Re‑organise laboratory space.
* Carry out stock checks.
* Draft risk assessments and SOPs.
* Handle and dispose of chemicals safely.
About You
* Good honours degree in a related science (ideally Chemistry).
* Highly organised with experience of and up‑to‑date working knowledge of COSHH regulations.
* Desirable: qualifying or working toward an appropriate H&S qualification such as NEBOSH general certificate.
* Substantial technical knowledge within an HE environment.
* Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to work collaboratively to deadlines as part of a high‑performing team.
* Ability to work independently and innovatively to seek solutions in a busy student‑focussed environment.
