The Role
We are looking for an enthusiastic Project Manager manage ‘People of the Peak: Past, Present Future ’ a new project funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund. This is a full-time temporary post (17 months) within the Peak District National Park’s Cultural Heritage team.

In this role you will manage and deliver the Development Phase of this project. A key outcome of the role is to develop the Activity Plan and other documentation needed to submit a Phase 2 Delivery Phase funding bid to The National Lottery Heritage Fund at the end of the Development Phase.

The People of the Peak project will engage volunteers with the heritage of the National Park, training them to monitor the condition of a wide range of designated and non-designated heritage assets. The project will greatly expand the National Park’s volunteering offer, with a focus on young people. It will also help us to increase the diversity of our volunteer cohort. The project will help us to better understand the risks to heritage from climate change and other factors, and the opportunities for enhancing biodiversity on heritage sites. The project will deliver training opportunities, including for a Cultural Heritage Trainee.

Key aspects of the role include:
• Managing project administration and reporting to the Steering Group, The National Lottery Heritage Fund, and the Peak District Foundation.
• line managing Project Support Officer and Trainees
• establishing community networks, liaising with external organisations and groups
• developing the initial project proposals and delivering pilot activities
• assessing bodies of information to prioritise heritage sites for ongoing monitoring
• legacy and sustainability planning
• evaluating all pilot activities in line with established frameworks and funding criteria
• ensuring the project dovetails into wider PNPDA volunteering development and objectives
• producing the Delivery Phase Activity Plan, other and documents for the Stage 2 funding bid
• championing the heritage of the National Park
• promoting the project and delivering public outreach

The project timetable requires this role to start in early July.

About You
You will have a degree or qualification in archaeology, heritage conservation, or other relevant discipline. You will have specialist knowledge of the archaeology of the UK, particularly in the uplands. You will have a good knowledge of conservation and relevant heritage legislation and best practice guidance, including experience of gaining scheduled monument consents. You will have considerable working experience in the discipline, including in a range of archaeological fieldwork, monument conservation techniques, survey, excavation and research. You will be experienced in planning and managing heritage projects and budgets, and be experienced in the managing and training of volunteers.
