Job Summary
5-year Senior Clinical Academic Fellowship in Rheumatology between The County Hospital, Hereford (Wye Valley NHS Trust) and the University of Birmingham (UoB), funded by The Eveson Trust.
Key aims of the post are to:
1. Develop and deliver a portfolio of world class research in focused on (an) inflammatory rheumatic disease (e.g. inflammatory arthritis, connective tissue disease or vasculitis) at UoB, linked to Wye Valley NHS Trust.
2. Establish infrastructure for a long-term clinical research collaboration between Wye Valley NHS Trust and UoB, ensuring that Wye Valley NHS Trust is integrated into a major research axis providing an environment for ongoing research collaboration beyond the tenure of this Fellowship.
In addition to your substantive contract at UoB, you will hold an honorary consultant contract with Wye Valley NHS Trust and will develop a specialist clinic at The Country Hospital, Hereford, for the management of patients with an inflammatory rheumatic disease, bringing to Hereford a research program including clinical trials. The clinical commitment associate with this post will be 2 PAs per week (including 1 clinic per week).
You will develop and deliver a programme of research in inflammatory rheumatic diseases, focusing on understanding the causes of disease, developing approaches to predicting disease outcome, and / or new approaches to optimising disease management. The specific portfolio of research that you will deliver will be informed by your research background and expertise but will be expected complement the existing strengths of the Rheumatology Research Group at UoB () to ensure synergistic fit.
You will contribute at a senior level to research, administration and teaching. In addition, you will be expected to contribute to academic citizenship, l to be demonstrated through generous, mutually respectful and supportive working relationships with staff and students.
Research will involve an established national and international reputation through significant original research work and a clear record of impact.
Management and administration will include Research Group / Institute leadership and management activity with University wide involvement – through sustained high value research, knowledge transfer, enterprise, business engagement, and public engagement or similar activities.
By the end of the 5 years, your teaching activities are likely to include: (a) development and leadership of major teaching programmes or equivalent; and/or (b) enhancement of the student experience or employability.
