Overview
The Environment Agency is looking for a senior advisor to support the regulation of the energy sector for a fixed‑term contract of up to two years. The role is based in Birmingham with some travel and may involve responding to incidents.
Responsibilities
 * Provide expert technical advice, guidance and training on regulatory requirements for combustion plants, waste incineration and refineries.
 * Develop strategy and produce tools to support the regulation of the energy sector and deliver environmental outcomes.
 * Commission and manage external research projects as needed.
 * Work with internal and external stakeholders, including Defra, DESNZ, trade associations and other key industry players.
 * Respond to incidents and provide business continuity support during incidents.
 * Collaborate with the Energy & COMAH team to deliver clear regulatory guidance and training.
Qualifications & Experience
 * Relevant technical and regulatory knowledge, including experience of the energy sector and control measures for emissions to air.
 * Proven ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
 * Strong relationship‑building skills with operators, regulators, government, trade bodies and academia.
 * Team‑working skills, able to collaborate to achieve common goals.
 * Experience in developing and delivering strategic guidance in a regulated environment.
Contract Details
Fixed‑term, up to 2 years. Location: Birmingham, UK. Some travel required.
