Application Support Analyst – Commodities Trading Firm | London
A leading commodities trading firm is seeking an Application Support Analyst to join its post-trade technology team, supporting a broad suite of business-critical systems including Credit, Risk, Settlements, Regulatory Reporting, and Treasury.
This is a highly varied role offering a 50/50 blend of BAU support and project delivery, with regular opportunities to personally own projects. You’ll operate in a fast-paced trading environment, gaining exposure across the full post-trade lifecycle while contributing to the evolution of a modern, cloud-enabled application estate.
Role Overview
As an Application Support Analyst, you’ll provide hands‑on support across a range of post‑trade applications hosted across both Windows Server and Azure Kubernetes. The role combines technical troubleshooting, stakeholder interaction, and project involvement, with significant opportunity to take ownership and influence team direction.
Key responsibilities include:
* Providing day-to-day support for post‑trade systems across multiple business areas, ensuring stability and timely issue resolution.
* Acting as a key point of contact for users, investigating incidents, analysing root causes, and implementing long-term fixes.
* Supporting a range of ongoing technology initiatives, including onboarding of new systems (inclusive of building SME knowledge, training users, and setting up monitoring and documentation), server upgrades, and more.
* Working closely with business stakeholders to understand workflows and improve system usage and efficiency.
* Utilise monitoring tooling to ensure application performance, identifying issues proactively, and ensuring system reliability.
* Writing and optimising SQL queries for data analysis, troubleshooting, and reporting.
* Utilising scripting (PowerShell/Python) to automate processes and enhance operational efficiency.
* Contributing to documentation, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement initiatives across the team.
* Taking ownership of discrete projects, with the opportunity to shape solutions and influence technical direction.
Required Experience
* Experience supporting applications within a trading environment (ideally middle/back office systems).
* Strong SQL skills (joins, selects, data analysis).
* Experience working within Windows Server environments, including log analysis and troubleshooting.
* Familiarity with application monitoring tools and processes i.e. Geneos, Grafana etc.
* Basic scripting experience (PowerShell and/or Python).
* Exposure to cloud environments, ideally Azure.
* Strong problem-solving mindset, with the ability to work proactively and take initiative.
* Experience working in structured environments (e.g. ITIL) and contributing to project delivery.
* Desirable: Exposure to Kubernetes environments + Interest in or exposure to AI‑driven tooling.
