Full-time coffee shop team member

Sevenoaks
Malabar Coffee House
Team member
£6,000 - £8,250 a year
Posted: 1 October
Offer description

We are Malabar Coffee House, a local, award-winning independent business which enjoys serving excellent house-blend coffee and hand-made food to our growing array of customers.

We are well established in the District with shops in central Sevenoaks, Riverhead and the Himalayan Gardens at Riverhill. We currently have FULL TIME day shifts available (so 35-45 hours a week), which would be the perfect fit for someone who's looking to take a gap year. We are a local business and we like our staff to be local too so please don't apply if you do not live near us.

What's in it for you?

* Competitive rates of pay with a permanent contract, guaranteed hours and five weeks paid holiday
* Day times only: we shut at 5pm so you'll have your evenings free
* Free meal and drink on shift
* Full barista training provided, as well as food handling and stock control
* We like to promote internally so most of our staff progress to premises key-holders with responsibilities such as ordering, cashing up and running team shifts
* Potential for further career progression beyond key-holder, so you can grow with us, creating a long term career path
* Company Pension
* Small, friendly teams with the option work across different shops in the Sevenoaks area to give variety to your working day. We can be flexible to suit your preference
* Local, independent business which prioritises Sevenoaks applicants, keeping our prosperity in the local economy

What does the job involve?

* Learning about the craft of making coffee: Don't panic Once you understand the process of grinding beans, extracting espresso, steaming milk and crafting latte art patterns, then the world is your oyster. Barista skills translate anywhere in the world and we provide the best training there is
* Making food to specific recipes: It's not complicated (think picnic but on a bigger scale), but once you've been trained in how to handle ingredients and rotate stock you'll be joining the ranks of our other certified Food Hygiene maestros (ie. team members)
* Handling cash and ordering stock: If you've got experience of using tills and ordering systems then great But if you haven't then don't worry, we'll show you the ropes. Once you've mastered this then you'll be running shifts before you know it (just think of that CV boost)
* Being friendly: It sounds simple but this is probably one of the most important aspects of the job. Not only do we like to give our customers a more friendly, personal greeting (a smile goes a long way), we also like our team members to rub along well. If you enjoy your job then the world is a better place.

What do we require from you?

* Bags of initiative and common sense: You'll be a problem solver who likes to think on your feet to get things done
* Resilience: You'll enjoy working as part of a team in a busy environment but also have the motivation to keep busy during the quieter times
* Attention to detail; You'll have an eye for the little things and have a desire to make sure they're done well
* Friendly manner: You'll be an ambassador for our brand, so your sunny disposition and confident communication skills will ensure excellent customer service skills
* Willingness to learn: Our barista training is personal to you, so you'll be a fast learner in the art of crafting a consistently good cup of coffee.
* Flexibility: We are open seven days a week and weekends are our busiest time but we shut at 5pm so you'll still have time to enjoy your evenings
* Team work: You'll work with your team to maintain health & safety and cleanliness across the store
* Reliability and commitment: We are a small but perfectly formed team who operate in a clean, organised way
* Your own transport: Not essential but more beneficial if you are deployed to our team at Riverhill

Well done if you've got this far Obviously you live locally, so why not pop in with your CV to any of our shops? If not, please submit your CV and we'll be in touch. We look forward to hearing from you.
