Overview of the Post
The Construction Training Manager will be based within the established Industries Workshop at HMP Forest Bank. You will be responsible for managing, delivering, developing, and continuously improving a programme of Level 1/Level 2 accredited construction multi-skills and health and safety training for serving prisoners.
Responsibilities include:
* Ensuring excellent operational delivery focused on participant experience, achievement, and progression outcomes
* Maintaining high-quality and standardized service delivery by tutors in line with awarding body requirements
* Building effective relationships with prison staff, officers, and management
* Meeting the requirements of commissioners, partners, employers, and stakeholders
* Driving the culture and values within the delivery team
* Managing finances and planning budgets for the programme area
Main Purposes of the Role
Delivery
* Lead and manage all aspects of accredited construction training within the prison workshop environment, including curriculum development and resource creation
* Ensure delivery of a high-quality service that achieves positive outcomes, including employment skills for service users post-release, and meets contractual KPIs and standards such as City & Guilds and Ofsted
* Participate directly in delivery and assessment of training to ensure continuity
Business & Service Development
* Develop and maintain strong relationships with Sodexo staff, Probation, and other agencies within the prison environment
* Manage and expand partnerships with employers and commissioners
* Lead quality improvement initiatives and curriculum development focused on high standards of teaching, learning, and assessment
* Promote a listening and learning culture, using data to inform service development
* Manage the prison workshop budget and resource plans
* Support financial planning and develop sustainability strategies
* Identify external funding opportunities and recommend initiatives
* Secure new income through negotiations, bids, and tenders
People Management & Development
* Drive team culture and values, ensuring effective integration with the wider Groundwork team
* Support workforce development and strategic planning
* Use feedback to influence policies and improve performance
* Oversee team performance, wellbeing, and development, ensuring compliance with contractual and external standards such as Ofsted
* Optimize the use of personnel within the workshop, including Groundwork and Sodexo staff
