Medical Defence Shield (MDS) is a Medical Defence Organisation, providing Clinical and Regulatory Defence and Employment Support to Healthcare Professionals based in the UK.
We have an in-house legal team and specialist advisors that offer professional support and assistance for members with both employment and regulatory matters.

Requirements of the post
* To provide excellent medico legal services for Members which is trusted, valued and provides fair treatment and outcomes.
* To support business needs in delivery of services to our Members where medical/dental expertise is required, ranging from input into Cases and/or Claims.
* Engage with external and internal stakeholder management.
* Delivery of value added services to benefit the Membership as a whole (current and potential Members).
Main Duties
* Serve as a key medico-legal advisor on medico-legal matters arising from cases relating to work related rules and regulations, clinical negligence, inquests, professional discipline and regulatory related matters.
* Reviewing Members inquest statements.
* Reviewing and advising on the clinical aspect on the medico-legal implications of Members clinical practice.
* Advising the legal team on the clinical aspect of Members cases.
* Undertaking statement reviews especially for clinical responses.
* Reviewing and summarising medical records.
* Dealing with correspondence and telephone enquiries pertaining to the clinical issues and clinical aspects of a member's concerns.
* Handling a wide variety of cases ranging from general advice through to claims, complaints, regulatory issues and inquests.
* Assisting the legal team with defending clinical negligence claims.
* Advising Members and the wider team on clinical aspects of statements for submission to solicitors or HM Coroner.
* Advising clinicians on process of giving evidence as witnesses in court.
* Providing urgent advice to Members dealing with immediate and challenging situations within a reasonable response time.
Requirements
Essential
· Graduate medical/dental degree
· Fully registered and licensed with relevant regulator
· Knowledge of legal and ethical principles that apply to medical practice in relevant jurisdiction
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
· Work effectively and collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team
· Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders
· Coaching and developing others
Desirable
· Post graduate medical/dental qualification
· Relevant clinical practice
· Relevant medico-legal experience
· Negotiation skills
