🚨 Safety Assurance Engineer – ETCS On-Board (Rail)
We’re looking for a Safety Assurance Engineer to support a UK ETCS on-board retrofit project, working closely with delivery teams, assessors, and technical authorities to make sure systems are safe, compliant, and ready for operation.
This is a great opportunity to get involved in cutting-edge in-cab signalling technology, playing a key role across design, testing, approval, and commissioning stages.

📍 Location: UK (hybrid – mix of remote and office)
đź“… Type: Full-time / Contract (depending on project)
What you’ll be doing:
1. Producing and managing key safety documentation (Safety Management Plan, Hazard Records, FMECA, Safety Cases, etc.)
2. Supporting the approval process, including obtaining APIS for train classes
3. Working closely with assessors (AsBo, ISA) and technical authorities
4. Supporting delivery teams through design, testing, commissioning, and first-in-class deployment
5. Contributing to technical files and ensuring all safety evidence is in place
6. Reviewing compliance reports, test results, and assurance outputs
7. Supporting activities before and after commissioning, including track testing
What we’re looking for:
8. Experience with train-borne systems, ideally ETCS, CBTC or similar signalling systems
9. Background in safety assurance and certification within rail or a similar industry
10. Experience working with assurance bodies (AsBo, ISA)
11. Understanding of CENELEC standards and CSM-RA
12. Strong communication skills and ability to work with multiple stakeholders
13. Someone proactive, reliable, and comfortable working in a collaborative team
Nice to have:
14. Experience with APIS or RIS-2700-RST processes
15. Background working in subcontractor or large project environments
16. Broader knowledge of railway systems and technologies
