My client specialises in the civil and structural design of electricity substation asset build and refurbishment and are involved in projects ranging from new build to modifications of existing sites from concept to completion. They also produce design and detailing works for various other sectors and clients involving a variety of schemes from steel framed structures, foundations, infrastructure and works within the water treatment industry. Our wide range of clients ensure a consistent workload on a variety of interesting projects.
They are currently looking to grow the team by employing an Engineering Manager to lead a talented Team of Engineers and drive success across various projects.
This role will be the technical lead within a team focused on delivering projects on time and to budget whilst maintaining high standards, improving efficiencies, and developing design standards.
The successful candidate will oversee project delivery within the Design team, management of the Team of Engineers and department, development and implementation of design standards, mentor and develop a dynamic team, and contribute to business development and recruitment.
This role requires strong technical expertise, leadership ability, and excellent organisational skills to manage the ongoing growth of our engineering department.
Key Responsibilities for this Engineering Manager role:
Project Delivery:
Ensure the successful and timely delivery of projects
Oversee project phases from start to finish, ensuring quality standards are met throughout.
Independent Checker of design submissions
Team Development:
Lead, mentor and support a growing team of design engineers
Provide technical guidance
Support the professional development of team members
Design Standards:
Create, implement, and maintain a suite of comprehensive design standards to ensure consistency and excellence across all projects
Business Development & Quotes:
Prepare quotations, technical proposals, and presentations.
Enhance business development efforts by identifying new opportunities and building client relationships.
Department Growth:
Drive the technical, professional, and operational growth of the engineering team.
Actively contribute to recruitment and onboarding of new team members to strengthen the team and improve departmental efficiency.
Produce and execute departmental plan to progress the Engineering Team and the business.Desired Outcomes:
Projects are delivered on time, within scope, and on budget.
Team members grow professionally and are well-prepared to take on increasing responsibilities.
Design standards are developed and widely adopted within the department.

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering
Chartered Engineer MICE or MIStructE
Proven experience as a Design Engineer, with at least 5 years in a leadership or management position.
Strong knowledge of design principles, methodologies, and industry standards.
Experience with project management, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Ability to mentor and motivate a team of engineers to achieve high performance and professional growth.
Experience in business development, including preparing quotes, proposals, and managing client relationships.
Knowledge of Design StandardsDesirable Skills:
Expertise in Substation design
Background in Civil or Structural Design
