Position: Design & Development Engineer Location: North Yorkshire (Hybrid) Salary: Up to £55,000 Sector: Plastics | Product Development | Engineering | Automotive About the Company Our client is a global leader in innovative plastic bearing solutions and precision components, supplying into high-performance sectors including automotive, industrial, and technical applications. With an established reputation for engineering excellence and innovation, they’re now looking to expand their New Product Development team in the UK. The Role As a Design & Development Engineer, you’ll play a pivotal role in creating innovative and commercially attractive new product designs, from concept through to handover into production. This is a hybrid role (office home), offering the opportunity to work on cutting-edge plastic injection moulded components with international exposure. You’ll work closely with global design teams, R&D, customers, and sales to ensure new products meet technical, commercial, and quality targets. Key Responsibilities * Generate new product designs from concept through to manufacture, meeting performance, quality, and commercial objectives. * Work directly with external customers and internal sales to support new business opportunities and lead technical discussions. * Plan and execute the design process using 2D and 3D CAD (SolidWorks PDM). * Produce concept RFQs, moulding plans, DFMEAs, DFM documentation, and validation plans. * Lead bearing design from concept to design approval, through validation and handover to international production teams. * Support tool design, production implementation, and technical sign-off. * Coordinate with global teams (UK & Thailand), ensuring smooth transition from design to manufacture. * Present technical concepts confidently in internal and external meetings. * Provide guidance to peers and support cultural and technical collaboration across international teams. Key Requirements * HND/Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar. * Strong 3D CAD skills (SolidWorks PDM essential). * Proven experience in plastic product design, ideally for high-volume manufacturing. * Knowledge of injection moulding, tooling design, and material processing. * Experience designing small mechanisms and production jigs & fixtures. * Familiarity with DFM, DFMEA, and design validation methods. * Excellent communication and presentation skills, with confidence working directly with customers. * Commercial awareness and the ability to balance design quality with profitability. * Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required (short planned trips).
