THE OPPORTUNITY
SII is seeking a Software Validation Engineer to support a major Space customer. The role focuses on the implementation of flight code V&V activities for complex embedded software developed in C and interacting with FPGA and ASICs.
This work package spans requirements analysis, test strategy definition, test development, execution, and full reporting to ensure compliance and traceability.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Analyse software requirements for flight code within the payload Software scope.
* Define and propose an appropriate test strategy based on existing frameworks and project constraints.
* Develop Verification & Validation tests using Java in a Linux environment.
* Execute functional, interface, and integration tests on embedded C flight software interacting with customer in-house hardware (FPGAs and ASICs).
* Produce test reports including:
* execution results
* compliance matrices
* traceability matrices against requirements.
* Collaborate closely with software development, hardware, and systems engineering teams
* Ensure adherence to space-grade engineering standards and project quality requirements.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE :
* Strong proficiency in embedded C for understanding flight software behaviour.
* Solid knowledge of Java for V&V test development.
* Competence working in a Linux development and test environment.
* Understanding of hardware-software interactions involving FPGAs and ASICs.
* Ability to interpret technical requirements and convert them into structured test plans.
* Familiarity with compliance, traceability, and structured reporting.
* Problem-solving mindset with strong analytical thinking.
* Ability to work within high-complexity, safety-critical or mission-critical environments.
DESIRABLE SKILLS:
* Proven experience in embedded software development and/or V&V, ideally within aerospace, defence, space, or similarly regulated industries.
* Experience testing complex embedded systems interfacing with custom hardware.
* Background in developing automated or semi-automated test suites in Java.
* Experience producing formal V&V documentation, including requirements traceability.
* Experience working on high-complexity systems with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
